Outreach

The Piecemakers Quilting Group

This group meets weekly on Tuesdays to produce quilts, baby quilts, lap robes, dog beds, stuffed pillows and cloth story books. These items are distributed to Lutheran World Relief, nursing homes, people in-need facilities, the fire and police departments and the community Christmas boxes, and others. Snacks and fellowship are an important part of this group!

Community Table

The Community Table serves in-need folks meals Monday through Thursday, with a sack lunch sent home for Friday. The Women’s Bible Study and St. John’s congregation cook and serve meals several times a month at the Community Table. They help coordinate, cook, serve and clean up.

Meals On Wheels

Congregation members volunteer to deliver Meals on Wheels throughout the month of October. They are sent out by Box Butte General Hospital to those folks that are unable to get out or have trouble preparing a meal. It is a nice connection with these folks!

Head Start Backpack Program

The Head Start Backpack program has provided weekend bags of food items to three, four and five year olds who are identified as income challenged. Food and financial donations are by congregation members, Thrivent action team dollars, the Endowment Grant and The Alliance Mission Store. Packaging is a big process to get the food items to Head Start!

Christmas Basket Ministry

St John’s hosts the Christmas Basket Ministry. The ministry is provided by volunteers and donations from United Way, other churches and other agencies in Alliance. United Way does the coordination and scheduling. Food items, gifts certificates for food, warm clothing, and lots of love collected items are assembled in boxes, and distributed in our parking lot. This system has been a great success. So many volunteers from the community make this happen.

God's Work Our Hands

Every September St. John's goes out in the community to help with special projects such as cleaning and painting for other non-profit organizations. Cleaning in parks, along roadsides, helping with gardening/cleaning for those folks unable to complete such tasks. It is a day of celebration in the gifts God has given us to share in love!
